We are a group of friends trying to make a platform where the people of India may feel free enough to imagine a fantastical world. Our country, with its diverse cultures and unique challenges naturally gives rise to people who are resourceful and creative, "jugaadu" as we would call it. We are one of the biggest work forces in the world and while that has it's benefits, it also means that many of our people do not get the time or opportunity to express themselves. That is where we think the table top and board game hobbies can help us all. These games while being fun and relaxing to engage in also give us a social experience and lend themselves to creating long term friend groups.
TTRPGs i.e table top roleplaying games are this company's current focus. What are they? Playing pretend systematized and improved so that adults may express their imaginations similar to how kids across the world have done for centuries. Such games are heavily supported and integrated in the culture of many western countries & we think that is because of the presence of infrastructure more than anything else. We know that there are group of people in India who want these hobbies to be supported, again and again we saw these people reach out on the internet, try to make their schedules work with folks outside of their country just to be able to play. As such our biggest goal is to provide the social infrastructure required to for people to experience this magical medium.
Cultivating Hobbies takes so much time even on an individual level, we are trying to cultivate a new hobby across the country. So we are working overtime and across all mediums. On the online front we have created Living Chronicles, the most active community of D&D players across India and the one stop shop for anyone to learn and get into the hobby of TTRPGs. On the offline front we have been organizing India's very first consistent series of D&D conventions, which are essentially massive meetups of people who enjoy all kinds of fantasy media like books, movies etc and bring their friends who are interested to be inculcated into the culture. On the community end we have been reaching out across India and looking for Individuals who are community leaders from each major city and bringing them together and giving them access to our community and expertise to build the local scene of play city to city. Our offline events are sometimes the only events where business owners associated with the hobby might even get to properly reach their intended audience.
All of this began with Piyush, or parsec as members of our community might know him. He worked with Anorak, a person who himself brought many people into the hobby and continues to do so, to create the first D&D community that was open and inviting to all. They named it the Infinite tavern. Other places and groups for such hobbies already existed on discord and off it by this point but, what was unique about the Infinite Tavern was a group chat called the Hobbit Hole. This particular voice call became a constant hub of activity with parsec and anorak inviting experienced DMs and complete newbies to the hobby together in a place where the rules were light but the community was encouraged to ask each other questions. This created an environment that was perfect for new people to learn about the hobby and immediately find a DM who might run a game for them or even give them space in a longer campaign. This kind of on demand play was what the community needed it seems cause the tavern exploded in popularity and activity and became the reason for many many new people to get into the hobby.
The two admins of the tavern took different approaches on how to help the community from there on. Anorak, realising the lack of Indian media on the subject started the infinite tavern podcast which is helping new and old creators of the community shine even today. Parsec on the other hand personally experienced the pain of having to cancel a campaign because of scheduling issues, he set out to find a way for people to be able to play D&D while having the schedules of working professionals. That's where an exandrian odyssey began.
Enter, Amol or Paper as folks might know him. Incredible artist and one of the most respected Dungeon Master's of the community. He had been a player of the dwarven empire, one of the biggest and well known westmarches to ever be run on discord. Him and parsec started working on a westmarch set in Critical Role's world Exandria. They fumbled their way through mechanics and story, brought in as many of the old people as they could and as many new people as they could convince to try. With pure intentions and a simple philosophy of failing forward, they managed to create a community where 70 or so players all were playing and active in the world. In a time where most campaigns don't even see an ending they were able to deliver a satisfying ending to mass scale story with character arcs for heroes & villains and most importantly they were able to create a community of players and DMs who all cared about each other and the story.
Now we come to me, ashwin or mortal, I had begun with these two in the odyssey as lore curator and then eventually became a moderator and even game designer. By the time the story wrapped up I was one of the team, and so now after a small break and the coming of new edition of D&D we embarked on our newest journey. Living chronicles isn't just another passion project, it is the culmination of 3 years of making and working on communities and D&D. It has evolved into a one stop shop for people to get into D&D, learn how to play it, GM it and spread it. But its not yet done with it's job. We are not setting out to make LC the way india interacts with TTRPGS.
