D&D is a game of imagination, but to help us in the visualization we sometimes need aid, these are like little props: maps, perhaps a model of your character or the dragon you are fighting. Those things might come in handy when you are actually sitting around a table with your friends but for online play there are applications called ‘Virtual Tabletops’ where a DM can setup a map and other fun images to aid the players in imagining of the world.
Something like the above, where there is a map with little circular images called ‘Tokens’. These tokens are used to represent monsters and characters and like in any video game, you are able to move your token to show case the movement of your character. Not only that, these tokens let you display cool character art that you might have drawn or found on the internet for your heroes.
All VTTs allow you to simply drag around your token with a click of a mouse and that is really all you need to know. The most commonly used VTTs on our server are Roll 20 and Owlbear.
