If you are new to the concept of D&D, have only joined here on a whim or merely have heard the name in passing somewhere, worry not here is an entertaining clip that explains the basics of the game in an easy to understand manner under 10 minutes. Let’s watch it together.
And that really is the core of the game, a conversation. You have a dynamic living world controlled by the dungeon master [DM] in which you can make an infinite amount of choices as your player character [PC]. Obviously like any good game, this simple process is slowly added upon by interesting game mechanics/abilities that make your characters feel like super heroes but the base game-play always remains the same.
If you read the comments of the video above, you will find these as the top two there:
Traditionally D&D is played in a 3-4 hour duration, on a table amongst a group of 3-7 players with one DM to direct them. There are games that happen every week on a designated game night and everyone involved is supposed to free this time slot for the game and then be on time, to the designated venue where the game is happening. The nature of D&D is such that every character and their presence is important for the story, similar to a web series, as such if even one player is unable to make it the game usually, has to halt.
If you have ever scheduled any social gathering you know the pain of finding the correct people and the time at which all of them are able to be together. For something as surreal and experimental as D&D? Well it’s no surprise that many, many people over the world that want to get into this hobby are unable to due to scheduling issues, lack of a venue to play in and a lack of people who share similar interests.
We have a player base of hundreds of players and dozens of DMs, so whenever you wish to play you can just request a game and then a group of players and a DM who have time in the requested slot will gather around you and you all get to play!
LC takes D&D online, to play you just join a voice call, like any other group meeting you have experienced over the internet.
You play games whenever you have time, LC allows you to participate at your own pace.
Does every DM create their own world? Do I have to create a new character for every game? What about progress of story and character? Is this just a one shot server? The answer to all these questions is a shared world where all the characters exist and DMs run their adventures.
We as the server provide the player base with a setting or world. The DMs run all their games in this same world and all player characters exist and progress here. Imagine if you will an MCU like connected story across games and DMs felicitated by the server mechanics and story provided by us.
What can you do in this setting? What can a player do in such a world? How does the flow of D&D change because of the open nature of this world?
Well this approach to D&D where your character is available to you 24/7 and the capability of jumping in and out of their shoes whenever you need makes this style of play almost like a virtual living world. This approach allows for you to do discoveries, inventions, miracles, comedies and tragedies and a lot more. The world lives and breaths right besides our own, rendered in beautiful detail by our DMs and imagination. Instead of a DM holding your hand through a grand adventure of their design. You get to choose what you want to pursue and can do it at your own pace given that world reacts to your actions dynamically.
